Somewhere in the South Pacific
Most others I sail with like the dawn watch, but I prefer the sunset watch. The hot day turns into night, the galley is cleaned and those below go to their bunks; lights off. You are alone in the coming darkness, with the warm breeze on your neck, and with the sounds of the boat being pushed by the air, through the water.
The watch to come is not long…. the change from day to night breaks it up. The excitement of the night – stars brightening and waiting to be seen, the motion of the boat under you as the waves pass by, frequently unseen in the dark. Yes, the sunset watch for me.
I could not find the exact source file, so I don’t really know where we were, exactly. But days (and sunsets) at sea repeat themselves, except they really don’t.
